Compaq
A brief history (from memory). Compaq started in 1982 with the aim of producing an IBM PC compatible machine at a lower cost - the name stood for Compatability With Quality; this is the reason for them becoming known as 'The Big Q' later on. It took them over a year and rougly a million dollars, but they did it and their first machine was released very soon afterwards. I haven't found one yet, but I've got the one that came after it :)
